Protecting the Environment
Mt. Vernon is a very special place, and much of that special nature is due to our beautiful surrounding environment. We are blessed to have some of our nation’s most beautiful natural surroundings. As residents it is all of our responsibility to preserve and protect this beauty, for our neighbors and for our future generations.
While we all enjoy the bounty surrounding us, those who watch closely know that we are losing ground, literally, every day to environmental issues caused by a lack of infrastructure and planning.
My campaign is making a special pledge to work doubly hard with all involved parties to improve the state of our natural surroundings – through investment, cooperation, and attention to the root causes of environmental decline.
If elected I pledge to work for:
- A comprehensive development plan along Rt. 1 that addresses the impact of poorly designed drainage on our areas streams and rivers.
- A cooperative community effort to address proper filtering of our waste and runoff water to preserve and protect our waterways and wetlands.
- A rededication of our local governments to proper waste management – including cleaning up illegal dumping areas throughout Mt. Vernon.
- A Citizen’s Call to Action plan to promote volunteer-led activities to improve our natural surroundings.
- A “Clean Business” program that awards tax incentives to new businesses that develop their facilities in an environmentally friendly way.
- A Commonwealth-Wide Focus on the environment to ensure that all of Virginia’s citizens understand and contribute to the preservation of the Chesapeake Bay and other of our natural resources.
Working together we can end the decades of neglect in Mt. Vernon and protect and improve our beautiful natural surroundings.
