Virginia’s Future to Power America

Virginia is both a high-tech state and an energy producing state.  Combining these powerful capabilities, our Commonwealth has the opportunity to lead the nation in a new generation of energy production, generation, and transmission industries.  This is an opportunity we must pursue – for our safety and security today and for the quality of life of our future generations.

In Richmond, I will seek every opportunity to expand the market for Virginia’s energy capabilities, promote the judicious use of all our available energy sources, and fight for market-based incentives to develop both environmentally and economically sustainable energy sources in Virginia. Together, we can make Virginia a leader in energy.

Make Virginia a Leader in Alternative Energy

We must provide tax incentives for the development of a host of promising energy technologies – wind, solar, wave energy, and smart transmission technologies, and more – so that Virginia is a leader in the energy technologies of the future.

Support Clean and Reliable Nuclear Power

We must support the continued development of Virginia’s nuclear power generation capability. Nuclear power is our cleanest and most reliable source of electricity and provides many high-quality jobs.  The technology has advanced greatly in the last twenty years, and Virginia needs to take advantage of this clean and stable resource.

Pursue Environmentally Responsible Exploration

I support environmentally responsible Oil and Natural Gas exploration off of Virginia’s coast. “Environmentally responsible” is key – while helping eliminate our dependence on non-US sources of energy is important, I will only support it if is done in a manner that preserves the environment. The benefit to our energy situation and the billions of dollars in revenue for Virginia will together provide countless opportunities for a better future.

Create Smarter Energy Policy

Work to decrease the waste and inefficiencies in our energy system. We need to take a careful look at government policies and determine which ones help us and which ones hold back innovation and efficiency.

Take a Stand for Virginians

Unfortunately, many special interests seek to manipulate our demand for energy – benefiting only a few at the expense of the rest of the Commonwealth. As a holder of the public’s trust, it is the job of a delegate to put the people first, ahead of special interests. I will take a firm stand against:

• Artificially inflating prices through taxation or over-regulation in order to control markets and limit energy choices for Virginians or Americans .
• Wasting taxpayer funds on pet projects that pursue non-sustainable energy technologies.
• Forcing the introduction of, or reliance on, energy technologies before they are economically, environmentally, and technologically supportable.
