Jay McConville Announces Candidacy for Delegate
Jay McConville, local businessman and well-known community leader, announced today the kick-off for his candidacy for the House of Delegates for the 44th District, which covers Alexandria, Mount Vernon, and Fort Hunt. Delegate Kristen Amundson is the incumbent. Jay is President of the Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association and an executive for computer manufacturing company Chandler/May, Inc.
Jay’s kick-off will be held at the locally-owned garden shop Holly, Woods, and Vines, off Richmond Highway in Alexandria. The event will be on Sunday, May 17th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“I encourage all neighbors and families in the Mount Vernon area to join us for my campaign kick-off,” said Jay McConville. “I am confident that my proven leadership skills in the community and in business, and as a veteran of the U.S. Army, are what Mount Vernon needs in these challenging times. This campaign is about bringing real leadership to Mount Vernon.
“We face many new and unprecedented economic challenges in our district today, as well as continuing issues with our transportation system and in finding effective solutions for education. I look forward to sharing my positive ideas with the community.” Jay has lived in Alexandria with his wife of 24 years Susan since 1996, after graduating from George Mason University and serving in US Army, including in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Jay’s oldest son is currently at Radford University while his two youngest children are in Fairfax County public schools.
Many know Jay from his leadership in Fort Hunt area sports, including as a youth coach and as a triathlete raising money for many charities. Jay is also the lead singer and plays trumpet for two local bands, and is active in his church and local citizen’s associations.
